Additionally, a number of options can be set with relation to the
local machine.
To enter the local configuration screen, go to Preferences->Settings.
The options on this screen are as follows (NB: Wording may differ
slightly for US locale):
- System Locale:
The locale Animal Shelter Manager should use. This determines what
language ASM uses for screens, along with the date format and currency
symbol. The menu items will not change language until you restart
ASM.
- Look and Feel: The look and feel of the application. Default
uses whatever the VM defaults is, Native Platform makes ASM fit in
with your native environment UI, Metal uses the Java Metal look and
feel, Metal for GTK is Metal but fixed for Linux/GTK users to use
better fonts and less bold.
- Video Capture Method:
What method ASM will use for capturing video stills on the add media
screen. ASM supports either the vgrabbj command line tool for Linux/v4l
webcams, HTTP retrieval for IP cams and calling an external command
line tool to grab the image. In the latter case, ASM will pass the
name of the desired output file to the command line tool.
- Video Capture Command/URI: If capture method is HTTP, you
should enter an http:// (or other appropriate URL, FTP will also work)
here to grab the image from. Otherwise, this should be the full path
to the program that will do the capture.
- Button Hotkeys: If selected, ASM will use push buttons instead
of toolbar buttons and assign each a letter. Pressing ALT and this
letter pushes the button instead of you having to click it with your
mouse.
- Start Maximised: If selected, ASM will start up in a maximised
window. If this option is not set, ASM will start in an 1024x768 frame.
- Use Internal Report Viewer:
If selected, ASM will display reports in child windows alongside forms.
Otherwise, ASM will spawn your external web browser for using reports
- Only Allow One ASM Instance: If selected, ASM make sure that
it cannot be opened more than once on the local machine. It does this
by writing to a lockfile at $HOME/.asm/lock
- Show Updates: If selected, ASM will check the website for
new updates on startup and notify the user if a new version is available
for download.
- Auto-Logout: If
a number other than zero is supplied here, ASM will automatically
log the current user out after this many minutes of inactivity (activity
is defined as opening a tab).
- HeartbeatInterval: The number of milliseconds between heartbeat
calls to the database (ASM sending the database a quick job to do
to keep the connection open - this is useful for hosted databases).
