Creating a Mail Merge Source

A mail merge source is simply a database file containing the information you would like to use to generate multiple letters. If you are using OpenOffice, you can use it to filter the source beyond that produced by Animal Shelter Manager.

To create a mail merge source, navigate to Mail Merge.

Initially, ASM does not come preloaded with any, however by going to Reports->Get more reports from sheltermanager.com, you can install mail merge sources (they appear in the list with the type ``Mail Merge''.

When executing a mail merge, you will be prompted to create a CSV file, or send bulk emails. You will want to create a CSV file if you intend to use a wordprocessor to create printed letters.

The files are always named <source>.csv (CSV is a text-based file of comma separated values). The mail merge tool will prompt you for a location to save the file to.

Note: You can also generate a mail merge source from the Find Owner screen by performing a search and hitting the ``Mail Merge'' button to produce a source from the results of the find.
